Franklin Fireplace
This mosaic fireplace surround, my first, started it all! It features flora and fauna from the homeowner's childhood home in Marin, CA. The home is in Oakland, CA.
"I was looking for ways to improve my boring, painted brick fireplace surround. Initially, I thought about tiling over it. Then it hit me: why not have a one-of-a-kind work of art surrounding my fireplace instead? I had already been an admirer and customer of Nora's glass mosaic art, and I knew I wanted the design to incorporate the signature blue herons I'd seen in other pieces. We talked about my favorite plants and birds and she provided me with two drawings. We agreed to a couple of small tweaks to the one I liked best, and I felt confident to leave it in her capable and artistic hands for the rest of the process. I couldn't be more thrilled with the result. I look at it every day and it brings me so much joy." - Melia F.
Maxeiner Fireplace
We are so thrilled with our custom fireplace surround that Nora created for us. We wanted something unique for our home that reflected our love of birds and the Illinois prairie. Nora closely worked with us on the design and listened to everything we suggested, even the very specific bird species we picked out. Nora knows her wildlife and created a design with amazing detail and beauty. We had no problem installing it when it arrived and we are so proud to show everyone our one-of-a-kind fireplace.

After trying out various tile samples to replace our dull fireplace surround and feeling discouraged that we’d ever find something we liked, we discovered Nora’s mosaics and immediately knew that we’d finally found what we were looking for. Nora’s signature blue heron is one of our favorites, too. This was the starting point for including other local birds and flora in the design.
Nora was easy and fun to work with. She answered all our questions and helped with design decisions, even taking us with her via smartphone on her shopping trip to the glass store. The finished mosaic is amazing–it’s transformed our living room.

The homeowners of this fireplace live next to a pond in Concord, MA and imagined a mosaic fireplace design showcasing the many animals that enjoy their beautiful waterway. The birch trees and the Barred Owl represent their love for the Adirondacks. It was an honor to create this tribute to their favorite places.

Featuring the flora and fauna of nearby Chesapeake Bay and the Blackhawk Nature Preserve was the goal with this mosaic tile fireplace surround. Pine trees rise to meet the grasses of the marshy wetlands, and an Osprey on the hunt soars over the waters.

Eastern Pennsylvania Fireplace
We absolutely love our custom mosaic glass fireplace surround. The details and craftsmanship are outstanding. Everyone who sees it compliments it and is amazed by the beautiful realistic variety of birds, flowers, and butterflies. We picked wildlife and flowers native to Pennsylvania. Nora knew immediately what kind of birds and butterflies we were referring to. Working with her was an absolute pleasure. She was very patient and dedicated as our contractor and architect worked out the details of the surround. It was a great creative experience and we love looking at our amazing fireplace surround. It’s the centerpiece of our new addition. Thank you Nora!

Nora was such a pleasure to work with on my fireplace surround! She has an excellent eye for combining colors, backgrounds, characters, and shiny, colorful detail to create the ambiance of freedom, serenity, and song I was desiring. This piece is exquisite! Thank you Nora!
When I decided to move and could only have an electric fireplace in my new place I began to research fireplaces and fireplace surrounds. At first I thought I wanted a marble surround, but the marble I liked was very rare and very expensive. So I thought I’d check Etsy for a second hand surround. That’s when I discovered Nora Cody’s work and knew immediately I would have to contact her. I was leaving the house I grew up in and had worked with a painter to capture some of the spring gardens I would be leaving. I thought it would be nice to carry the concept in the fireplace surround incorporating the idea of capturing the four seasons and how one season flows into the next. Nora loved the idea and over several months we worked on a plan together with me sending Nora pictures of the gardens in various seasons. I told her my favorite tree is the dogwood and favorite flower pansies. I wanted to add the wild life I was used to seeing in the yard so I could take all those memories with me to my new home. Nora was open to all my suggestions and did a beautiful job fulfilling my dream fireplace surround. I love having such a unique piece of art in my new home.
